ADA Alexandra "Alex" Cabot
Warning: Contains spoilers for seasons 4-6
Cabot was a tough, intelligent and driven prosecutor, never afraid to go the extra mile to win a case. She came across as rather icy, but she still had compassion for the victims she dealt with - she just mostly kept her feelings to herself. There was one case where she convinced a teenage boy to testify about his abuse, who later committed suicide. She blamed herself for this and had a hard time dealing with it.
During one case, involving a very powerful drug dealer, threats were made on her life. However, she was determined to convict the man and pursued the case anyway. When leaving a restaurant with detectives Benson and Stabler one night, a drive-by shooting left her wounded. Newspaper headlines the next morning announced that she had died, but she had really been put into the Witness Protection Program. Detectives Benson and Stabler were the only two to know about this, until she came back around two years later to testify against the man who had made an attempt on her life. The case was won, but Cabot was put back into witness protection.
In
Conviction, Cabot returns to New York as a Bureau Chief in charge of a group of young prosecutors. How she was able to leave witness protection was not explained.
Conviction showed her in a slightly different light to that of
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Cabot was more politically motivated and happy to make deals that let criminals off lightly.
