Why SVU?
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit has a lot of impact on me... watching it is like going on a rollercoaster ride at times. The stories
are disturbing, upsetting and sometimes down right sickening, but I really like the way in which the cases are investigated. They have such an impact and many episodes have a good point to make. The characters on it are top rate too and fascinating to watch. Each has a place and a personality that could never be replaced.
I don't think there has ever been a show quite like
SVU. It brings topics to light that most people will not talk about and I think that it has helped a lot of people as a result of the kind of focus the victims are given in the storylines and through the strength of these characters. It has very unique plots and a very unique way of portraying them. It will also make you think and is quite realistic.
Aside from the brilliance of the show itself, I really admire how much Mariska Hargitay (Olivia Benson) has done to help real-life sexual assault victims. Starting
The Joyful Heart Foundation shows how much she is in touch with the character she portrays.
